The Coudray-Salbart Castle, located on the Echiré commune (79), is considered one of the most important castles from the 13th century in Europe. Built by the Plantagenêt dynasty in the middle of the 13th century amidst a conflict with the French king, it was abandoned in the 15th century and never modified since then, which gives it an exceptional interest. The archaeological intervention led by A. Montigny (INRAP) focuses on curtain wall 45, between Saint-Michel Tower and Double Tower (see plan: https://skfb.ly/6NJz6), to understand the evolution of this section of the rampart that constitutes a key sector in the development of this fortified place.\nAerial photo by kite: V.
