Couch Side Table

<p>This couch side table is made from several small MDF boards that are connected by 3D printed supports. The covers for the supports are customizable and are simply slid over the supports (in this case they are 3D printed copper pipes with nuts). Assembly and disassembly is very easy, the support pipes are simply slid over a small connector that is screwed onto the MDF board and fixated by twisting them in place (see photos).</p><h4>Parts and Materials</h4><ul><li>MDF board, at least ½-inch (1.3cm) thickness<ul><li>I cut a 48-inch board into 3 smaller boards. But the size of the boards can be pretty flexible.</li></ul></li><li>24x wood screws (6 x 5/8)</li></ul><p>For printing the support connectors, several parts need to be printed:</p><ul><li>4x inner-pipe</li><li>8x inner-connector<ul><li>These “inner” connector parts are ideally printed using PETG to make them more sturdy, but PLA also works</li><li>Needs supports</li></ul></li><li>8x cover-nut</li><li>4x cover-pipe<ul><li>Can be printed in vase mode</li></ul></li><li>8x cover-threading<ul><li>I used copper PLA for all the cover parts</li></ul></li></ul><h4>Assembly</h4><p>See photos for how the assembly is done:</p><ul><li>Cut the large MDF board into 3 smaller boards. Add some PVA glue to seal the edges and wood surfaces before applying the paint. After adding 3 layers of paint and seal with a primer.</li><li>Measure where the small inner connectors should be placed and mark on each board.</li><li>Predrill 3 holes for each inner connector. Ensure that the orientation of the connectors is identical (otherwise twisting the support pipes in place won't work).</li><li>Screw the inner connectors in place.</li><li>Slide the cover threading, cover pipes and nuts over the inner pipe.</li><li>Slide all the parts over the inner connectors that have been screwed in place.</li><li>Slide all the pieces of the side table in place.</li><li>Twist all the connector pipes to fixate them.</li></ul><h4>Customization</h4><p>Instead of having copper pipes for covering the inner support pipe, it is also possible to change the design as long as it can be slid over the support pipe and allows it to get twisted to fixate it.</p>
