Cosplay mask sew-in eyepiece
thingiverse
Hey everyone, I'm sharing my design for a replaceable lens insert that can be used with any cosplay mask or costume. These inserts were initially designed as a direct replacement for the plastic sew-in lenses shown in DieselPunk.ro's Plague Doctor mask, but they can also be used for custom designs you're working on. You can add these to masks that have already been built - just remove the old lens and sew this upgrade in place. There are multiple options depending on your desired look and leather thickness, so I hope you find these designs useful. Please note that these inserts are designed to allow leather to sit behind the bezel, which is why there are different versions of the front piece (they only differ in the groove's depth). Files included: * Eye Back.stl - This nut portion holds the lenses in place and fits any version of the front piece. * Eye Front - Flat.stl - This design replaces the plastic lens that gets sewn behind the leather. There is no bezel, so supports will not be necessary for printing. * Eye Front - <xx>mm.stl - These designs are essentially the same, but allow for different thicknesses of leather (the file name corresponds to the maximum leather thickness). Supports will be necessary for these prints. These inserts use 46mm diameter lenses, so you can choose what works best for your design (clear or colored plastic, cut-down sunglasses, etc). Print Settings: * Plastic used: PLA * Layer height: 0.1mm (to help with thread definition) * Infill: 100% (there's not a lot of infill in these designs, so you can set it to 0 if desired, but 100% ensures that the front bezel is solid plastic if you want to sand or shape it) * Buildplate adhesion: Skirt Supports (where used): * Placement: Touching buildplate * Pattern: Concentric (the best option since these are round designs) * Density: 15% (give or take - make sure there are at least three support rings, one on the outside edge, one on the inside edge, and one in the middle) * Support roof: Disabled. No roof makes it easier to remove the supports, and the supported face is the part that gets sewn against the leather so it will never be seen.
