I've been collaborating with several Doctors at East Surrey Hospital UK to develop a shield that safeguards Doctors as they treat patients. This is still a work in progress and has only been tested so far on mannequins using Intubation Hood 2.1. I'm sharing this concept with others, hoping it might be helpful in its development. Keep in mind that there's no guarantee this will prevent infection. Version 2.1 is simply a flat sheet of Polycarbonate, either 2mm or 3mm thick, shaped into an arc and featuring cutouts for the Doctor's arms. The top section will need to be supported by 2mm material or pulled down with 3mm material to hover above the patient. We abandoned the V1 Box design due to its complexity, which made it difficult to produce quickly and inexpensively. Version 2 is a simplified version of this concept. A photograph shows Doctors testing a similar device in China. Feel free to copy, modify, or do as you wish with this idea without giving credit. The only exception is profiteering - if you create one, either do it for free or at cost. We're all in this together! I'd like to thank Dr Sarah Rafferty, Dr Matt, and Cirrus Laser Ltd for their contributions, including making prototypes free of charge. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to message me here or at Simon1@PSI-Design.co.uk.
