Corncob Handles

Corncob Handles

My two little ones love devouring corncobs at the barbecue - but eating them straight from the heat is not exactly kid-friendly. We bought small skewers that resemble a fork and slide into the sides of the corncob, but these are far from child-safe - the handles are too tiny and keep breaking off because they're not strong enough to grip the cob. This can be very hazardous with sharp edges just inches from their face! I decided to design bigger handles for small hands that use a threaded mounting system instead of just inserting them into the corncob. My handle is built around a sturdy wood screw for a stable connection to the corncob stalk. To create a smooth, rounded shape, I divided the body into three parts and printed it from top to bottom. The top and bottom covers conceal the screw head and the less-than-pretty underside of the handle. To boost stability and allow the screw to be seated securely, I added a threaded channel in the middle of the handle that takes the thread. This part is printed at an angle for greater mechanical strength. When fully assembled, it's completely invisible due to the bottom cover, which also counteracts the screw head. The top cover hides the screw head as well. To prevent the handle from rolling off the table, I printed one side with 100% infill to create a slight imbalance. I've used this design for my kids and it works great - but remember, use caution! Always keep the sharp screw covered with the provided cover. This is not a toy - only use food-safe materials and be mindful of cleaning. The handle prints quickly and easily, so consider replacing it periodically.
