Cork extractor design gets a boost with simple fix for major flaw. The extraction load is initially placed on three thin strips of plastic that inevitably break off, causing the cork to become lodged inside the corkscrew. By incorporating a large spacer, all the pressure shifts to the main body of the corkscrew, eliminating the problem. Two instances have been successfully repaired using this solution so far. Remove the bottom black collar, slide out the clear plastic spacer, and insert a new one between the spring's base and the top of the clear spacer. Reassemble the unit.
