The wing corkscrew, also known as a butterfly or angel corkscrew, was first invented in 1932 by Spanish industrial designer David Olañeta for his BOJ brand. This corkscrew design features two levers, one on each side of the worm. As the worm is twisted into the cork, the levers are raised. To remove the cork from the bottle, simply push down the levers in one smooth motion. The most common wing corkscrew design includes a rack and pinion mechanism connecting the levers to the body. The central shaft's head is often modified to function as a bottle opener, adding to the tool's utility. These corkscrews are particularly popular for household use.
