CoreXY Laser Engraver Mk2

CoreXY Laser Engraver Mk2

I've been upgrading the original engraver nonstop. When Jogi shared his Make of the enhanced version (https://www.thingiverse.com/make:523254) he built upon many weaknesses (much cleaner build, larger area, chain belts) and we started discussing how to implement a Z axis. It took quite some time but here's now the Mark 2 engraver with a motorized Z axis that has 50 mm of effective travel range. The Z axis can be used to find the optimal laser focus by scanning a certain height range, for instance. You can also adjust your focal spot on a sacrificial layer on your workpiece and later correct for its height using the Z axis. And, of course, you can engrave 3D surfaces as well. Although this probably requires proper CAM software. I will add more details in the future and generally report on the new design regularly.
