I built a better soldering iron as an upgrade to the one from Radio Shack, which just wasn't doing it for me. I made some changes, added a slot for a lithium-ion battery, kept the switch the same and removed the light because it wasn't necessary in my book. You could add a light later if you wanted. To build it, print vertically and drill holes in all the right places. Drill a hole to fit your light bulb socket on top, another to hold your chosen button on one side, and a bottom hole that snugly fits the battery. Connect the positive lead to the tip of the socket, then to the switch and finally to the battery. Take the negative lead and attach it directly to the socket screw, with the other end touching the battery too. If you take the time to do the holes right, everything will fit together nicely without glue needed. I've included a file that contains instructions on how to build a custom battery grip, so your battery fits neatly inside. Be gentle with your button as this soldering iron runs hotter than most and can get ruined if you hold it down for too long!
