Judges: The prints displayed were produced by MyMiniFactory as part of the review and approval process for contest submissions. A single-piece model was printed, but better results can be achieved with the two-piece version that requires no supports. To see the full-sized images, click the "Zoom" button below the image box above; my photos are not square and get cut off otherwise. AUTODESK REMAKEThis is my Stage 1 submission to the #DesignByCapture contest, created entirely using Autodesk ReMake. For Stage 2 (submitted separately), I designed a screw bit holder that can hold up to 12 screw bits, pencils, or other accessories directly on the drill for convenient one-handed access. HOW I CAPTUREDTaking photos of the drill from multiple angles, I then processed them with Autodesk ReMake to generate the uploaded 3D model. To help others achieve similar results, I'll outline my process: placing the drill on a table, snapping photos at five-degree intervals while circling around it at different elevations. My camera is a Sony A6300 with the 16-50mm kit lens, using a tripod and remote trigger for sharp focus. Set to manual mode with a small f/22 aperture, ISO 200, and fixed shutter speed, the small aperture kept the entire photo in focus while the fixed exposure settings maintained consistency across all shots. To avoid refocusing after every shot, I tied a string to the tripod as a reference to maintain consistent camera distance. RESULTSThe results are impressive, with Autodesk ReMake accurately modeling every detail of my cordless drill. The model's accuracy was confirmed through my Stage 2 submission (submitted separately). I plan to use ReMake in future projects. FILESAs required, I've uploaded the generated model in OBJ and STL format. To prepare it for 3D printing, I split the model into two pieces, requiring supports for FFD prints. Depending on printer size, you may need to scale or further subdivide the model.Look out for my Stage 2 submission!
