Note added Jan. 6, 2022 : Since I made this, I created another version for flexible filament:

https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/114467-cord-clip-plug-keeper-flex-version-two-sizes

These simple clips are designed for standard power cords with a cord diameter of approximately 6.4mm (they may work with other diameters which are about the same, or can likely be scaled for other diameters). They are designed to be used in a situation where the loose length of a power cord is wrapped around some sort of holder, but the plug end is left dangling free - these clips temporarily fasten the plug end to the rest of the cord.

The clips all follow the same core design:

There are two clips joined together, a long and a short clip

The long clip is “permanent” (although actually removable if necessary), and is designed to stay attached to the power cord

The short clip (which also has the clip ends rounded) is designed to temporarily clip the plug to the cord firmly, but is still fairly easy to remove

There are four versions :

V1B - the simplest design with the two clip in alignment; also the easiest and quickest to print

V2B - the two clips are at right angles to each other

V3B - the two clips are at 45 degrees to each other

V4B - the two clips have a print-in-place rotating connection

I have not tested these clips with long term use, but in the brief testing I have done they seem to hold up well - although I suspect the rotating joint version (V4B) may not hold up to rough use.

Print Instructions

Print the clips in PLA using the 3mf or gcode files provided.

Related notes :

V1B - no brim required; print end up

V2B - requires a brim; print with the long clip open end down. It might print without a brim, but I have not tried this.

V3B - this has a small built-in “brim” under the angled clip, otherwise no brim is required

V4B - no brim required. After printing, slowly rotate the joint a little bit back and forth until it breaks free and rotates freely.

CAD

The OnShape 3D CAD files for this are here :

https://cad.onshape.com/documents/7479482418d0dbef7cf17971/w/a8a32d50e2c7164787d795c0/e/c946845f3221400c514af1e9
