This enigmatic countenance with prominent bulging orbs, a diminutive angular proboscis and pointed canines was once an integral component of a corbel in a sacred edifice. It is believed to have originated from St Cuthbert's Chapel, Old Melrose, constructed in 1073 AD, only to be ravaged by the English prior to 1321. Currently on loan from the National Museum of Scotland. Dimensions: 243 x 169 x 113mm. Inventory number: MEL/c/9 | Rae Project.
