Corbel Fragment, St Andrews Cathedral
sketchfab
Carved with precision from sandstone, this imposing male head originally served as a decorative corbel at the iconic St Andrews Cathedral. As an architectural element, it protruded from the wall to support weight, functioning like a sturdy bracket. During Scotland's tumultuous Reformation in the late 1600s, significant damage may have befallen parts of its face and forehead when large sections of St Andrews Cathedral were demolished.
