Coraline Button Key
thingiverse
This design takes inspiration from HLMAX's Coraline Button Key, but with a twist. I wanted to create a version that could be printed without gluing the halves together, so I designed the parts to fit seamlessly into each other - and then you can glue them in place. While I think HLMAX's original is more accurate, this was a quick design, so some compromises had to be made for the sake of simplicity. The key should print with minimal supports, as shown in the picture. However, the post of the key will need to be glued into the handle separately. A STEP file is included for easy remixing and customization. After printing the initial version, I found that the key broke due to my print settings not being optimized for strength. I re-printed it with a couple of tweaks, which made it significantly stronger. I also printed two posts this time around - see the pictures for details. Having two posts helps with the finish by giving the PLA time to set as the head moves over to the other part. If you don't want to print two keys, another option is to run the post with a tall part or even just a 2-wall cylinder with no infill that's as tall as the part. I uploaded a cooling tower that matches the height of the post for those who prefer this approach. You can use Cura's "per model settings" to print it selectively with 2 walls and zero infill, and then place it about an inch from the post. For optimal results, try these print settings: * 3 walls * 60% infill (Cubic Subdivision) * Speed: 50mm/sec If you find that the design is too tight to assemble, simply sand it or scale it in your slicer - I think the uploaded design should work fine.
