ART2330C The spark behind this character originated from a profound admiration for the ocean and its awe-inspiring inhabitants. I sought to craft a creature that embodied grandeur, majesty, and the ability to traverse vast distances across the ocean's surface. Additionally, I envisioned this being as possessing extraordinary telepathic and telekinetic capabilities. The Coral King was born from these desires. To bring this concept to life, I employed aluminum wiring in crafting the clay sculpture. A spine stretching from the head to the tailtip served as a foundational element, while a rib cage provided proportional balance on both sides of the creature. Subsequent layers of clay were carefully molded and shaped according to the concept art that had previously been developed. In ZBrush, I sculpted the 3D model by dividing it into distinct parts using subtools. Simple shapes formed the initial framework, which was then augmented with additional clay through the use of ClayBuildUp. This meticulous process allowed for intricate details and textures to be added, bringing the creature's form to life. Upon completing this labor-intensive stage, I turned my attention to painting with PolyPaint.
