Colony of the Silurian tabulate coral Favosites sp. Discovered on Wenlock Edge. Favosites is a long-extinct genus of tabulate coral that stands out for its polygonal, closely packed corallites - earning it the common name "honeycomb coral." The walls between these corallites feature pores known as mural pores which facilitated the transfer of essential nutrients between polyps. Like all coral, Favosites thrived in warm, sunlit seas, forming vibrant reefs and feeding on microscopic plankton using their stinging tentacles. This genus had a global distribution that spanned from the Late Ordovician to the Late Permian. Captured using a canon 5DS R camera and Stackshot 3x with turntable to produce 108 high-quality images, which were then processed at advanced levels using agisoft photoscan software. ___________ This object was meticulously scanned by Fossils in Shropshire.
