Copt Howe / Langdale Boulders are ancient carved rocks situated in the Great Langdale region of Cumbria, England. The engravings discovered on these stones display striking similarities to examples found in passage tombs, particularly those located in the Boyne Valley, Ireland, dating back around 3000BC. In June 2018, Prof. Richard Bradley and Dr Aaron Watson led a comprehensive 11-day excavation of the site, carefully opening four trenches. In addition to excavations, meticulous recording also involved geophysics and photogrammetry techniques. For further information, please refer to Dr Aaron Watson's dig journal at http://www.aaronwatson.co.uk/journal/2018/7/17/excavations-at-copt-howe-day-1-the-project-begins. A detailed 3D model created from 17 high-resolution images captured on day nine (June 25, 2018), showcases trench one about five meters from the intricately carved surface. Close-up photography was not feasible without disrupting ongoing recording efforts (time-lapse imagery). The most captivating aspect of these engravings is the distinct differences between the motifs. Some are executed with remarkable precision while others appear to be crudely etched.
