The helmet stands out as one of six Anglo-Saxon helmets that have managed to survive until the present time, and it is by far the most perfectly preserved. It closely resembles its counterpart found at Wollaston in Northamptonshire, and like those from Benty Grange, Sutton Hoo, Shorwell, and Staffordshire, it belongs to the group of "crested helmets" that dominated England and Scandinavia from the sixth century through to the eleventh centuries.
