Convert a regular water tap handle to a copper elbow operated one using a piece of 15mm copper tubing, roughly 20-25cm in length. Rubber bands are optional. Copper effectively kills off any pathogens that come into contact with it, even if it develops a tarnish over time. A study found that SARS-CoV-2 remained viable on copper for up to four hours, whereas steel and plastic allowed it to survive for two to three days.
Mounting
Position the optional rubber bands as shown in the picture and slide them onto the tap handle.
Dismounting
The optional rubber bands provide a secure grip on the tap. To dismount, avoid pulling the plastic extension off without holding the tap firmly, or it may become dislocated.
Print Instructions
The design is intended to be printed upright for support-free printing. It was printed with PETG at 200 microns layer height and a small skirt. CORONA_TAP_10.STL is the preferred design, featuring minor improvements over other versions. If necessary, scale it up or down to achieve a better fit. This version fits all of the pictured taps. CORONA_TAP_11.STL is a 110% scaled-up version, excluding the tube part.
Links
https://www.copper.org/applications/antimicrobial/COVID-19.html https://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/copper-virus-kill-180974655/ https://www.engineering.com/DesignerEdge/DesignerEdgeArticles/ArticleID/20107/Copper-Kills-the-Coronavirus-on-Contact-so-Why-Isnt-Copper-Everywhere.aspx
