A cooling tower is a heat rejection device that rejects waste heat directly into the atmosphere through the cooling of a water stream down to a significantly lower temperature. Cooling towers either employ the evaporation process to remove unwanted process heat, effectively lowering the working fluid's temperature to levels close to the wet-bulb air temperature itself, or in the case of closed circuit dry cooling towers, rely exclusively on air circulation to cool the working fluid down to temperatures near the dry-bulb air temperature.
