A heat rejection device that rejects waste heat to the atmosphere is called a cooling tower. This device cools a water stream to a lower temperature by rejecting the heat into the air. Cooling towers use either the evaporation of water or solely air to cool the working fluid, bringing it near the wet-bulb air temperature or dry-bulb air temperature. Cooling towers are commonly used in various industries such as oil refineries, petrochemical plants, chemical plants, thermal power stations, nuclear power stations, and HVAC systems. The classification of cooling towers is based on the type of air induction into the tower, with the main types being natural draft and induced draft cooling towers. A detailed model of a cooling tower was created in real size, including all nodes and bolted connections. This model was designed specifically for use in nuclear power applications.
