The Peltier effect is a direct conversion of electrical energy into heat energy and vice versa, discovered by Jean-Charles-Paulo-Gaspard-Gaston Peltier in 1834. This phenomenon occurs when a pair of dissimilar metals is connected to an electric current, causing one side of the junction to become hotter while the other side becomes cooler. The Peltier effect is utilized in thermoelectric coolers and heaters to efficiently convert electrical energy into heat or cold.
