Convolution's Cousin, an Interlocking Puzzle by Stewart Coffin Assemble five pieces into a 4x4x4 cube to solve this puzzle, requiring a rotation. This puzzle was named Convolution's Cousin for its similarity to the well-known Convolution puzzle designed by Stewart Coffin. The solution requires a rotation and is much less well known than Coffin's other cube puzzles, including Involute. Coffin does not have an STC number assigned to this puzzle under his usual numbering scheme, making it a forgotten stepcousin in his collection of interlocking mechanical puzzles. This print uses snap joints, allowing it to be printed without supports. After printing, connect all the joints before attempting to solve the puzzle. Align each male connector with its corresponding female connector, ensuring that the labels match (e.g., the male connector labeled "A" should align with the female connector labeled "A" on the interior). The joints are designed to be tight and may require hammering together, depending on the printer and filament used. If they come out too loose or fragile, a drop of superglue can make them more solid, but this is often unnecessary. This puzzle is rendered in a single STL file for ease of use and distribution. The Split feature of slicer software (such as Slic3r) can be used to break it into individual components, making it easier to print in multiple colors. It's modeled using PuzzleCAD, and the .scad file is included so you can remix it and change the size, tolerance, or beveling. Make sure it's in the same folder as puzzlecad.scad.
