The Convair YB-60 failed to secure the contract for a long-range all-jet heavy bomber, losing out to the Boeing B-52. Its components were easier to manufacture due to their similarity to those of its predecessor, the Convair B-36; many parts shared a common lineage. However, despite this, the YB-60's performance was not significantly better than that which it aimed to replace, putting it at a disadvantage against the innovative Boeing B-52.
