The Convair CV-580, a popular medium haul transport plane in the '60s and '70s, was built to replace the CV-340 and Martin 404 models. This aircraft featured Allison Turboprop engines, providing increased power, speed, and efficiency compared to its predecessors. Despite being replaced by jets like DC-9 and 737s in the late '70s and early '80s, many CV-580s continued serving smaller carriers for freight and charter operations well into the 2000s.
