Originally built for United Airlines and other operators, such as KLM, it was an extended version of the CV-240 with more seating and a longer wingspan for improved high-altitude performance. Pressurized, the Convair 340 comfortably carried up to 60 passengers and later served as a charter and cargo aircraft.
