Available in various formats, the Convair 340 was a popular medium-haul transport aircraft for commercial airlines during the 1950s and 60s. Operated by major carriers until the mid-70s, it was often replaced by jets like DC-9 and 737s. Built initially for United Airlines and others including KLM, it was an extended CV-240 with added seats and increased wingspan for better high-altitude performance. Pressurized, it could carry up to 60 passengers comfortably. Later used as a charter and cargo aircraft.
