Available in various formats, the Convair 340 served as a popular medium-haul transport plane for commercial airlines during the '50s and '60s. Operated by major carriers until the mid-70s, it was often replaced by jets like DC-9 and 737s. Originally built for United Airlines and other operators including KLM, this aircraft was an extended CV-240 with a longer fuselage for four additional seats and a larger wingspan for improved performance at high altitudes. Pressurized, it could comfortably accommodate up to 60 passengers. Post retirement from major airlines, it continued service as a charter and cargo plane.
