The Convair 340, a popular medium haul, medium load transport aircraft during the '50s and '60s, was used by major airlines until the mid-'70s, when it was replaced by jets such as DC-9s and 737s. Initially built for United Airlines and other carriers like KLM as an extended version of CV-240 with added seats and an increased wingspan, this pressurized plane could accommodate up to 60 passengers in comfort. Post retirement from major airlines, it continued service as a charter and cargo aircraft.
