Initially built for United Airlines and others including KLM, it was an extended CV-240 with extra seating and a longer wingspan for improved high altitude performance. The Convair 340 was pressurized and could carry up to 60 passengers comfortably. After its commercial service, the aircraft was used as a charter plane and cargo carrier.
