Conus pulcher, commonly known as the butterfly cone shell, is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Conidae, the cone snails and their allies. This species is widely distributed along the warm waters of western Africa's coastline. It can be found in a variety of habitats, preferring sandy or muddy bottoms from one to fifty meters deep. Like all species within its genus, it is a predator and venomous animal. Conus pulcher has existed since the Pliocene era, as fossil shells dating back to that time have been discovered. This specimen, originating from the Canary Islands, has been digitized under the Paleo-conéctate Project, an initiative led by Prof. Carolina Castillo Ruiz, Principal Investigator of the Paleontology Area at the University of La Laguna, aimed at fostering scientific vocations.
