I wanted a ship to hold containers for a sci-fi re-theme of the board game "Container" (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/229892/container-10th-anniversary-jumbo-edition)

DiceCaller had created a couple models using a neat hex/triangle cargo container (Cargo model here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:942812 - you can also search for "DSC Cargo"), and I felt those were more sci-fi than the simple rectangle cargo containers used in the shipping game. However, the game requires only 5 cargo spaces per ship, and DiceCaller's has 6 or 8 (depending on version). I remixed this to have only 5. I decided to do 5 different ships for the 5 different color/players, so I made 3 using parts from this model. I also used parts from his Damien cargo ship. The ones based on that model are under a remix of that Thing, not this one. You can find that thing here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3252265

Print instructions

Category: Games How I Designed This

Design Notes

DiceCaller's Manchester had a large front and huge series of rockets in the rear. I took those parts, along with the side-by-side design for the cargo, are deleted and remixed pieces to make 5-cargo models.

Manchester 5

The first remix was the Manchester 5 (kept the name in respect to DiceCaller's model and added the 5 due to the capacity). It kept the distinctive front from the Manchester, but substituted the single cargo and rear engine from the Damien model by DiceCaller. I added two additional sideboard engines for support and stability on the table surface. After I had completed other models, I realized that there were some gaps that might make printing more difficult. As I fixed those on the other models, I just used solid shapes as fill. On this one, I added a couple holes along the vertical separator for the cargo. This felt like a nice touch, but again, worried about printability, so I added a stylistic beam that goes through those portholes.

Cincolajes

This is the next remix for this model, taking the opposite approach. I kept the rear of the Manchester and added the additional (5th) cargo from the Damien, this time in front. I didn't like the Damien front end and didn't know how printable that design was, so I added some winglets to connect the body and nose. I also added some convex parts to the rear rocket engines because I wasn't sure the print tolerances of the original engine cones. I closed up some voids and added a hex hole in the vertical between the side-by-side cargo locations. It's named after a little town in Portugal I visited this summer (an homage to the initial model being named after a British town), adding Cinco (spanish/portugese for 5).

JusWonMor

While this is the third on this set, it was actually the 5th one I designed. I had two I made based on the Damien and then went back to this design for a 5th model. For this one, I kept very true to the original Manchester, but took the cargo shape and turned it into a void on the top. While not aerodynamic, it should be functional, with 4 slots in the body and the 5th along the top. I also added additional rocket cones in the rear and between the 12 major ones from the initial design bringing the total to something like 18 rockets cones in the rear. I again closed some gaps in the model design to prep for printing and renamed it "just one more."
