Container game sci-fi retheme 2: DSC Space Cargo Ships Remixed

I wanted a ship to hold containers for a sci-fi re-theme of the board game "Container" (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/229892/container-10th-anniversary-jumbo-edition)

DiceCaller had created a couple models using a neat hex/triangle cargo container (Cargo model here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:942812 - you can also search for "DSC Cargo"), and I felt those were more sci-fi than the simple rectangle cargo containers used in the shipping game. However, the game requires 5 cargo spaces per ship, and DiceCaller's had fewer. I remixed this to have 5. I decided to do 5 different ships for the 5 different color/players, so I made 2 using parts from this model. I also remixed his Manchester cargo ship, and the three other designs are remixed under that model, and are not included in this. You can find those at this Thingiverse link: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3252186

Print instructions

Category: Games How I Designed This

Design Notes

DiceCaller's Damien Tractor had an aircraft-design nose and a series of hexagon holders for cargo, but just too few for the needs of this game re-theme. I took those parts and extended them to hold 5 containers and then modified the front and rear.

Turbo Damien Wu

The first remix took the initial shape and added a new nose cone that should be easier to print on a FDM home 3d printer. It has no overhangs and the geometry should lend itself to printing. I am a little worried on the center hexes, but the bridge length is less than 10 mm so should be fine. For stability, I added some long rocket boosters and adapted the nose cone to match the larger, central cone. I added some bolts on the rear engine, but don't know if those will be even seen at the model's resolution. Finally, I kept the Damien name in honor of the initial model, but added the Turbo descriptor and Wu (chinese for 5, as the number of cargo holds).

Tumacincori

This model is another take on the Damien, but abandons the pointy nose in favor of a large spherical living area. Inspired by the 2001 ship, this seemed appropriate. I had to flip the boosters from the Turbo, but felt those better fit the aesthetic of the large golf ball front-end. It left neat trailing nose cones, though, creating an interesting look. It does have a slight nose cone "beak" for the pilot to navigate and steer from. Not sure if I'll keep that over time, but it's there now. It's named after one of my favorite tiny town names, Tumacacori (pronounced Tooma-cock-or-ee), in Arizona, but I wanted to keep the "5" theme. So I added cinco (spanish for 5) in the middle of tumacacori and it turned into TumaCINCOri (tooma-cinco-ree).
