Contact Holder for Electrolysis

Contact Holder for Electrolysis

thingiverse

This simple device holds electrolysis contacts. To use it, cut out one side of a soda can, then sand off any paint remaining. Next, insert the can's sides into this holder and attach the top to a bottle or container. Pass wires through to connect them to the can's walls. Add NaOH to water to increase its conductivity, and apply as much current as possible. You will see bubbles forming - these are hydrogen and oxygen gases. Collecting them together is extremely hazardous, as they are highly explosive in their exact stoichiometric ratio for burning. The goal of this setup is to keep the contacts very close together, reducing the voltage required to achieve a high current flow through the water.
