Construx 4 Post Hinge Knot
thingiverse
After having kids, I unearthed my old Construx building set, a go-to building toy (after Lego) from childhood. Everything was in great condition, but the black knots (connectors) that acted as hinges had become brittle over time and broke with the slightest twist. I made the decision to create a version of them for 3D printing. They may not be any less brittle, but at least I can produce new ones whenever needed. This version is compatible with the original, meaning that if you broke the center part, this center will fit into the original part. ** Updated soon after posting with slightly narrower inside piece to prevent jamming. Print Settings Printer Brand: RepRap Printer: Wanhao i3 Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution:.15 Infill: 100% Notes: I struggled to get this to print correctly with support. Cura would produce excellent supports, but ruin the walls of the larger piece. Slic3r would add too much material when it automatically detected everything. Here are the Slic3r settings I used: Generate Support Material: Checked Overhang Threshold: 0 Enforce Support for First Layers: 0 layers Raft: 0 layers Contact Z Distance: 0 (soluble) mm [which seems unusual, but whatever] Pattern: Rectilinear Pattern Spacing: 2mm Pattern Angle: 0 Interface Layers: 3 Interface Pattern Spacing: 0mm Don't Support Bridges: Not Checked
