Connecting rod for drag boat
thingiverse
I found a connecting rod from my friend's wrecked drag boat engine and he gave me this exact replica made of ABS as a gift (check out the pictures above). I then offered him a return favor, this time a custom-made connecting rod made entirely out of high-quality plastic. To make it work seamlessly with existing engine components, I had to adjust the rod cap holes so that bolts could pass through without requiring threading on the cap. This tweak proved crucial in ensuring a smooth integration process. Now, here's how you can replicate this build: Firstly, print out two parts using high-quality material and apply sufficient support to prevent warping, as my own print bed reached 120 degrees Celsius during this process. A good tap and die kit is necessary, I used an 11mm 1.75 tool for precise threading on the bolt heads. In terms of quality control, part resolution seemed not to impact overall fit - a plus in terms of practicality when working with fragile engine parts.
