Connecting cube
thingiverse
The Spark That Ignited It All! I designed this straightforward building block because my daughters are absolutely enthralled with Minecraft. They've created some truly remarkable structures on the game, but I wanted them to have a tangible object in the real world that could be constructed similarly to Minecraft's block-based architecture. So, I searched for something on Thingiverse first, but was astonished to find nothing that met my requirements. The Birth of a Brilliant Design! I quickly sketched out a simple concept with my daughter and then dove headfirst into Fusion 360. Since I realized I had no idea what I was doing in the software, I headed straight to YouTube for some guidance before proceeding with the modeling process. The Evolution of a Winning Build! My initial prototype was decent, but the edges were alarmingly sharp and the connections proved to be far too challenging to assemble and disassemble. The second iteration boasted smoother, more rounded edges that made it much easier to connect and detach the blocks. While there's still room for improvement in terms of cube connectivity, the overall design is working remarkably well. Bringing It All to Life! I printed them using supports and a 10% infill, opting for standard quality settings on Cura. Using my trusty Ender 3 with PLA, I'd recommend printing two cubes initially to ensure they work as intended before filling your print bed with an assortment of blocks and letting the printer run overnight. While I haven't experimented with other filaments yet, I'm eager to try out some bendable options in the future. Each cube takes approximately an hour to print. The Final Touches! This is my very first Thing, so please feel free to remix and refine it as you see fit! I'm excited to contribute more projects in my spare time and can't wait to see what others create with this design.
