A math model of conic sections - a cone cut into sections to show hyperbola, ellipse and parabola. How I Designed This My Algebra II teacher taught me about conic sections last year, so I thought it would be great to create a 3D printed physical model of the different sections of a cone. Project: Conic Sections Objectives: This model demonstrates the concept of conic sections. Students can view and interact with the physical model to help them understand hyperbolas, parabolas, and ellipses. Audiences: High school students studying algebra and precalculus Preparation: Students need a good understanding of algebra and some introduction to conic sections to fully grasp what the model represents. Steps: Idea - I was inspired by my Algebra II teacher's lesson on conic sections last year, so I decided to create a 3D printed physical model of the different sections of a cone. Design - I used Blender to build the model Results: Students will have a physical and interactive model illustrating the concept of conic sections.
