After my relative success with the first battery box, I decided to come up with a more flexible option. This would allow for even greater power and versatility. If you have experience with batteries and tapping batteries, you can see how this design would be ideal for a multi-voltage battery supply. In the pictures, I've configured it to run 3V in parallel for testing LEDs and running small coils that I've built, but by changing the wiring using either the bolts or the bus wire, you can configure it to operate at any voltage from 3V up to 24V. One of the benefits of this design is its modularity. You can print one lid and one box, or if you need more power, you can simply screw them together using all-thread to create a large AA-powered battery pack. This is particularly handy given the falling price of high-capacity NIMH batteries. For example, on eBay, you can buy 100 AA batteries for just $30. Alternatively, with coupons from Harbor Freight, you can get 25 AA cells for free. And at Dollar Tree, you can purchase 10 AA batteries for just $1. Either way, this option is extremely cost-effective. This design is also highly configurable, making it an ideal solution for a wide range of applications.
