Configurable Square Standoff

Configurable Square Standoff

thingiverse

This can be used as a basic standoff for mounting components such as ESCs and flight controllers to quadcopter frames. It is highly customizable, allowing users to set the size, thickness, foot diameters, and more to their desired specifications. This spacer can also be configured to accommodate different-sized boards, including those with unique hole spacings like the Piko BLX with its 22.5mm hole spacing. The mounting holes can be aligned directly with the larger hole spacing or mounted at an angle, as needed. The base plate can be designed with a height of zero, resulting in simply printing tubular standoffs. If additional standoff space is required on both sides of a standoff, users can print two standoffs and place them back-to-back. This design offers a more efficient solution than trying to print an elevated or supported base plate. For example, the Mini Owl ESC and FC mounting features four-footed standoffs between the frame and ESC to keep the ESC off the frame, another four-footed standoff above the ESC to clear components, and an eight-footed, 45-degree-rotated standoff above that to orient and mount the Piko BLX FC. A bolt passes freely through the frame, lowest standoff feet, ESC, middle standoff feet, and then threads into the outer feet of the top-most standoff. The inner feet of this standoff are also tapped, and the Piko BLX is bolted to it from the top. The filleting process can be slow, especially when using the Thingiverse Customizer. However, users can speed up render times by reducing the arm_fillet_steps value or making changes directly in OpenSCAD. Print Settings: Printer Brand: Printrbot Printer: Simple Black Rafts: No Supports: No Infill: Go light to keep it light (20% infill recommended) Notes: I like to make the holes in the standoff feet small, then use a drill to gently drill them out to the precise diameter needed. The holes can be drilled out for a free fit of a mounting bolt or tapped for screwing into other items. OpenSCAD is an excellent tool that I highly recommend. This design is my second OpenSCAD/CSG creation, and I find it difficult to imagine going back to graphical CAD tools for structural projects.
