Configurable Model Rocket Fin Guide
thingiverse
This is a configurable and printable guide for positioning and gluing fins to the body tube of a model rocket. Configuration options include the number of fins, body size, fin thickness, and other adjustments for print size and strength. Fin guides like this are not new, but Dave Juliano implemented one in a nice printed version on The Rocketry Forum. I liked the idea, so I created an OpenSCAD Customizer implementation here. This item and other model rocket tools I have written can be found in this thread on TRF. All of my Thingiverse model rocketry-related designs are collected in this collection. The photo used here is courtesy of markg on TRF. Note that this guide requires the download and installation of the OpenSCAD CAD tool, not the Thingiverse Customizer. Usage details: Usage is self-explanatory, and playing around with slider controls will help figure it out. If you're new to the Customizer, see below for a blurb on how to use it. =================================================================== ===================== OpenSCAD Customizer =========================== This file was created to use the OpenSCAD 'Customizer' feature in an installed version of OpenSCAD, which allows Windows-style selection tools to set component parameters. To use this feature: 1. Ensure you're using a recent OpenScad version (at least later than 2019.05). Download OpenSCAD at http://www.openscad.org/downloads.html. 2. Open the Fin_Guide.scad file with OpenSCAD. 3. In the OpenSCAD [View] menu, uncheck the option [Hide Customizer]. The Customizer window should open on the right side of the screen. 4. At the top of the Customizer window, check 'Automatic Preview' and select 'Show Details' in the dropdown box. 5. If you're comfortable with these instructions, also check the option [Hide editor] to view the model full-screen. You can also hide the Console.
