Configurable LOCKABLE Delta Spool Holder
thingiverse
***Updates!*** Now with effortless spool feeding, reloading and maintenance thanks to the convenient spool lock feature!!! Code refinement, annotations, measuring diagram, refined clamp, parameterized design. Use the "spool- ... -parameterized.scad" files from now on. WIP - This is a cutting-edge Delta Spool Holder for my high-performance Griffin Pro XL. All other versions available on Thingiverse wouldn't fit my hard drive bearing so I created this one in openscad to make it compatible with any size bearing. Measurements:(diagram for entering measurements into parameterized files) I utilized M4 screws and inserts for the platform, but it can also be force fitted by adjusting tolerances and requiring no additional fasteners. I will add the tolerances I found to the code later, but each printer will have slightly different results as tolerances are in the 0.5mm range for force fitting. Currently using this adapter for drive bearing to spindle mount. Works well with press fit: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:380636, I will replace it with a configurable design if needed. The design uses 3/4" pvc for the arms, which allows for custom fitting to my delta and reduces print time. It worked incredibly well. I do not recommend using anything smaller than 3/4", but if you do, the design is fully customizable. I will be refining code and adding comments soon. This mount greatly improved z artifacts, as the side spool design on my Griffin is a poor design choice that caused excessive tension on the filament resulting in ripples. Warning! I am going to add a "lock" feature eventually but for now when loading the filament there is no longer any friction to hold the spool in place. This is perfect during printing as the forces on the filament are very small, but when manually pulling filament the spool will quickly spin sending rings of 1.75mm filament everywhere, it's a minor drawback but the results are definitely worth it. I usually place my spool on the side or floor while loading, then put it on the holder to minimize unwinding effect. Lock completed! No more mess. Note: The "caps" are not required; they were originally created to hold the arms to the pvc but the tolerance is so tight that arms are force fitted. They do look pretty though. Print Settings Printer Brand: MakerGear Printer: MakerGear M2 Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.1mm Infill: 30 Notes: Supports were only necessary for the platform all other parts print without supports. How I Designed This OpenScad I used open scad, but I have included a Blockscad (no download required https://www.blockscad3d.com/editor/) XML file as a demonstration for those that do not have openscad.
