Configurable Delta Spool Holder
youmagine
WIP - This Delta Spool Holder is designed specifically for my Griffin Pro XL. Other versions available on Thingiverse won't fit my hard drive bearing, so I created this one using OpenSCAD to make it versatile enough for any size bearing. M4 screws and inserts secure the platform, but you can force-fit it by adjusting the tolerance and skipping additional fasteners altogether. I'll add the tolerances I discovered later, as each printer's tolerances vary between 0.5mm for a press fit. Currently, I'm using this adapter to connect my drive bearing to spindle mount. It works well with a press fit: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:378071. If needed, I'll replace it with a configurable version. The design uses 3/4" PVC for the arms, allowing for custom fitting on my Kossel and reducing print time significantly. This was an excellent decision. While you may want to use smaller material, the design is fully customizable, and I recommend using at least 3/4" for optimal results. This mount has greatly reduced z artifacts on my Griffin, which had a side spool design that caused excessive tension on the filament, resulting in noticeable ripples. Warning: Eventually, I'll add a "lock" feature to prevent accidental spinning. For now, when loading filament, there's no friction holding the spool in place. This is perfect during printing due to low forces on the filament, but manually pulling filament can cause the spool to spin rapidly, sending 1.75mm filament rings everywhere. To minimize this effect, I usually place my spool on the side or floor while loading and then put it on the holder. Note: The "caps" are not necessary; they were originally created to hold the arms to the PVC but are now unnecessary due to tight tolerances that ensure a force fit. They do look nice, though. Notes: Supports were only required for the platform as all other parts print without them. I used OpenSCAD to design this holder, and I've included a Blockscad (no download required https://www.blockscad3d.com/editor/) XML file as an example for those who don't have OpenSCAD.
