Confederate Cipher Disk (Caesar/Vigenère Cipher Disc)
thingiverse
A laser cut replica of the Confederate Cipher Disk is a project that requires attention to detail. There are two versions of the cipher disk, each with its own set of requirements. The 3 piece version consists of a base plate and an outer ring, which must be glued together. The inner disk can then be placed inside the ring and move freely without any additional fixation. This version works well with thick materials like wood or acrylic. In fact, the wooden example in the picture was made using this 3 piece template. It's clear that the creator has a passion for crafting intricate designs. The 2 piece version of the cipher disk is just as impressive. It consists of two base layers and two optional layers, one of which is required. The "cut" layer creates the outer edge of the disk, while the "engrave" layer adds the intricate details. The optional layer "center holes" allows for concentric holes to be cut into the disks, enabling them to be mounted together using a screw or pin. This feature is particularly useful with paper or cardboard, as seen in the cardboard example in the picture. Furthermore, the optional layer "deep engrave" creates a circular pocket in the larger disc when used with an appropriate laser setting like Visicut's "engrave_3d". This version is primarily intended for use with acrylic. The yellow acrylic example in the picture demonstrates this feature perfectly.
