I fabricated a custom air intake system for my 2002 by installing an E21 manifold as part of its EFI conversion. From beneath the throttle body, I attached a silicone elbow to some 3-inch OD tubing and secured it with a cone filter. A support bracket press fits onto the bumper retaining bolt, keeping the filter firmly in place. You may need to adjust the saddle radius based on your specific filter size. Mine measures 6.25"x4.75"x5.25" (W1xW2xH). I've included the Fusion360 file so you can modify it as needed for your own application.
