The Wave Concept is designed to highlight the unique and customizable features of the PolyJet process. Evoking the colors and patterns of nature, this concept creates a space for inspiration using the full variety of colors, textures and shapes made possible by Stratasys PolyJet printing. The design features a pattern of colored segments suspended on a clear body. They are colored in a multi directional gradient of 35 colors, repeated 3 times at varying degrees of transparency for a total of 105 unique appearances. Colors are varied in hue around the perimeter of the design, and in lightness from top to bottom. The colors are assigned to relevant components in the STEP file. Transparency is to be opaque for the first gradient set, 30% transparent for the second set and 60% transparent for the third set.By focusing on a subset of the available color gamut, the color gradient highlights the color accuracy possible with PolyJet. Hues can be customized to match project demonstration needs, or multiple copies of the design can be used to illustrate the full color gamut.More commonly available material sample kits rarely show how variations in transparency affect a material’s color, let alone surface finish and durometer. To further demonstrate the versatility of PolyJet, this design is split into an upper and lower half, which can be printed in different durometers. We recommend printing the bottom half as a rigid, and the upper in a 60 Shore A, for example. This would provide a solid, smooth feel to the base and a more grippy feel to the top.The split line between the parts follows internal design features, minimizing visual interruptions to the internal forms. The part to part interfaces allows the top and bottom part to rotate against each other, encouraging play and experimentation. The top and bottom parts are to be printed assembled. Support material is only needed on the bottom surfaces to maximize optical clarity and simplify support removal. External surface textures of all colored parts and text are to be matte, while the clear parts should be glossy. Depending on surface finish of the bottom parts, where support material is contacting the part, some light sanding and polishing may be required to maximize optical clarity. An attempt at a GrabCAD print tray file for the J55 printer (.print format) is included to capture the multiple levels of material transparency. Not having much experience with this software, it's unclear if any addition...
