Joannis Avramidis, born September 23, 1922, is a renowned Greek-Austrian sculptor. Born in Batumi, Georgia, he hails from a family of Caucasus Greeks who have lived there for generations. After studying in his hometown, Avramidis went on to attend Fritz Wotruba's studio in Vienna, where he honed his craft and developed his unique style. He later became a respected professor at the prestigious Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and, from 1966 onwards, taught at the Hamburg academy as well. In 1962, Avramidis represented Austria with distinction at the highly acclaimed Venice Biennale.
