Computed surfaces with openSCAD
thingiverse
These surface skins were engineered entirely in pure openSCAD thanks to computational capabilities added as of late 2014 versions. The code resides on Github at https://github.com/KitWallace/openscad/blob/master/poly_surface.scad, and project specifics are detailed on my blog post http://kitwallace.tumblr.com/post/111959789244/computed-surfaces-in-openscad. Alternatively, Thingiverse also features surface construction capabilities at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:24897; however, due to union operations with smaller cuboids, performance can suffer significantly. Please be aware that this software does not perform any sanity checks, so improper face alignment may lead to disastrous consequences for subsequent CSG operations.
