Compliant Mechanism 1

Compliant Mechanism 1

thingiverse

This project is inspired by Fdavies's work on printable Sarrus linkages, such as those available at http://www.thingiverse.com/fdavies. The goal is to create a mechanism that provides accurate large-displacement linear motion without relying on precision mechanical components like metal rods and ball bearings. You can view a video of this mechanism in action at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6Y6iKvTpIc, while the main article can be found at http://www.reprap.org/wiki/Compliant_Linear_Motion_Mechanism_1. To construct this mechanism, use the template files in the provided zip for lasercutting or cutting out pieces from your choice of materials. The zip contains templates in pdf and dwg formats, as well as an openSCAD mockup of the compliant stack. Additionally, an update includes CompliantMechanismSheetmetal.zip with sheet metal templates in pdf, svg, and dxf formats generated by Inkscape. For further instructions on gluing operations, refer to paperInstructions.pdf provided in another update. Further details about sheet metal construction can be found at http://www.reprap.org/wiki/Metal_Etching_Scriber.
