Complex PVC Round Shelf Bracket

Complex PVC Round Shelf Bracket

I had a idea for a complicated organizer made from PVC and brackets. I liked the look and function of the version by 3D-PT, but needed a lot more configurability. To do this I remade the brackets using the original as a reference.

In the process of remaking these brackets I made fixed some symmetry issues and made a tighter fit on 1/2 inch schedule 40 PVC pipes without the need for tape.

I've included basic bottom, middle and top brackets in low shelf and high shelf styles because these are the most common use cases. The low shelf is based on the original design and will hold the shelf in the slot. The high shelf is designed for the same 4mm shelf to sit (roughly) flush with the top of the bracket connectors.

For more advanced users I've broken out each component so it can be combined into what ever shape you need. These components can be combined in slicer or in a mesh editor. In slicers this would generally be the same process as used for multi-material prints but simply adding the bodies together instead of selecting a particular filament.

Many combinations are redundant, but it makes it assemble if you have any orientation you want to start with. There are also loose fit (original) and tight fit components. The loose fit version includes the basic bracket combinations. The tight fit components will likely need sanding or heat to fit PVC pipes.

Components

Orientation naming

a - top

b - bottom

c - back (north)

d - front (south)

e - right (east)

f - left (west)

Cores - central part to which other components connect

through core to allow one pipe through the center

foot is meant to be glued and not combined in slicing

Connectors - connectors to a single PVC pipe

anchored (anc) variants for top and bottom with screw holes on four sides

Caps - for printability and looks there are caps to fill the space where PVC pipes set into cores

detailed (det) variant if you like the look

Shelves - two connectors with a horizontal shelf between then

low shelf - holds a sheet in a slot, screws holes are provide

high shelf - sheet sit on top of the shelf and screws are needed to hold it in place

notches - fills the slots on the outside of a shelf for strength, printability and looks

Fit - three sizes provided

standard - size I found to give a balanced fit in both horizontal and vertical print orientations (vertical tight enough, horizontal not too tight).

loose (_l) - size replicated from 3D-PT original which I found to be a bit too loose in the in vertical orientation.

tight (_t) - size I found to give a snug fit in vertical orientation but requires sanding/heating to fit in the vertical orientation.

Measurements

PVC pipes are spaced 14mm from the center of the bracket. The bracket itself is 15.2mm from center to side. If you wanted a 10cm by 10cm shelf you would cut four PVC pipes to 41.6mm (100mm - (214mm + 215.2mm)) maximum.

The slot of the low shelf brackets and recess of high shelf brackets are 10.5mm from the center (of the PVC pipe this time). To fill the 10cm shelf from before you would cut your 4mm thick sheets to 48.6mm by 48.6mm (100mm - (210.5mm + 215.2mm)) maximum. In addition you will need to take a 8.6mm chamfer off the corners of the sheet to fit it

The measurements above are theoretical and give no clearance. Cutting sheet material and PVC can be imprecise so I would recommend giving a couple millimeters of clearance.
